I am a certified English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher in the state of Missouri. Through my honors college work I have a firm grasp on many English Language Arts course types. I work as a full time teacher in a local school district so I will be able to ensure that the instruction being given centers around the Missouri English Education objectives. I am an encouraging and energetic teacher that strives to make all aspects of ELA interesting! Before receiving my teaching license I worked as a tutor in a local high school and gave writing lessons to my college peers.

My favorite thing about working with English Language Arts (ELA) is that not one lesson is like another. Every student is different so their writing sturucture and beliefs about the world will be different as well. My classes will always encourage independent thought because ELA is not known for having one correct answer.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I first ask what that student, or the parent, feels that they would like to improve upon. I then have the student show me their skill set by either reading over their previous work or giving them an inital assessment. This allows me to narrow my focus on the best way to help the student achieve. When it comes to mastering a skill a teacher must first ensure that their student has a solid grasp on each building block of said skill. Then we can work on putting those pieces together in a well developed work.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a college graduate from the University of Missouri with a degree in Secondary English Education. I also hold my teaching license with the state of Missouri.
I have three years of tutoring experience through AVID tutoring and independent tutoring.
