About

I take a different approach to STEM tutoring by working to find the best way that each student learns, and taking a top-downwards approach to learning.

First, every student is different, which is why it is important to learn their strengths & unique ways they learn before launching straight into materials. Tutoring is built on trust in each other, an important part of the process.

Second, I have the student step back - it's easy to get lost in the complexity of math, but intuitively explaining concepts at a high level using illustrations, examples and other innovative tutoring techniques such as "explaining it back" and finding real life examples to build a mental map can help as we build downwards until we get to the bottom of the mountain and complete our learning. Constant communication helps to form trust so that we do not advance before laying the foundational knowledge, and constant practice gives the student confidence in their abilities.

The thing I enjoy most is when I get to see the moment when a concept becomes perfectly clear & you can see the student's eyes light up. I enjoy the work that goes into those moments -- explaining concepts, working with students as they round-out their knowledge and become a true mathemetician, and are able to do things they never thought they would be able to. Everyone can do math, there's no special gene for it: the only thing needed is hard work & a positive attitude, and I love watching students grow in their educational journeys
