HS

Heather S.

Lakeidra breaks down math concepts extremely well. My son is a 9th grader who has been disinterested in math for as long as I can remember. She has made him engage in his work in a way I havent seen from him before. He went from a 68 in the class to an 89 by the end of the term. A B might not be extraordinary to many but for my son, this is a miracle.

Kei is such a patient and thoughtful tutor! My daughter was struggling in Algebra II with her help my daughter ended the semester with an A! I would recommend her to anyone with a child struggling to comprehend math. She breaks it down in a way that is easy to understand.

Frequently asked questions

I typically evaluate how the student is doing in the subject. This assessment helps me to see if the student is struggling with overall comprehension of the material or if they are looking to improve scores and move to a higher level.

I am currently a student attending The University of Alabama. I have taken college level math and English classes and excelled in them. I have also tutored my peers and middle and high schooled age students.

I usually charge about $15 an hour depending on the difficulty of the subject and travel expenses. I usually give students a discounted rate for booking a week or more in advance.

I started tutoring in the 8th grade. It started very organically by me helping students in my neighborhood with their work after school. Being homeschooled, I had time in the evenings that wasn't dedicated to doing homework, and I found that I loved seeing other students when they finally understand a concept they didn't before.

I have worked with students in grades 6-12 in math, English, and science.

A couple of months ago, my essay was published in The Univesity of Alabama's freshman English composition textbook. Here is the citation for it:

Smith, Lakeidra. “Decoding My Future.” The Norton Field Guide to Writing with Readings and Handbook, 4th ed., New York: W.W. Norton & Company, Inc., 2016, pp. 643–645.

Credentials are important when looking for a teacher, but in my opinion, personality is equally important. If a teacher's tutoring style does not mesh with your learning style then you won't get anything from the experience.

Before talking to teachers about your needs, you should establish a list of want your needs are. Don't come to your teacher and expect for them to know your needs or guess them because this is doing yourself a disservice. When you come prepared to talk about your goals, your teacher can identity way they can help effectively get you there.
