About

I have been tutoring on and off since 2012. I have earned a B.S. Early Childhood Education and an M.Ed. Special Education. I have been teaching in some capacity since I graduated from undergrad in 2015. I have worked with students from Pre-K through high school. However, I prefer to work with elementary aged students.

I have been a collaborative special education teacher working with 1st -3rd grade since 2022. I have unique experience finding and implementing different methods based on individual students. My students typically make 1.5 - 3 years growth per school year.

I am comfortable teaching math and reading at the elementary level, but I truly enjoy teaching math and helping students understand how operations work rather than just having them memorize steps.

My goal is to make learning enjoyable and help students to grow a love of learning. I do my best to avoid frustration and build understanding for all students.

Heather tutored me in math for 4 years when I was in grade school. She always gave me confidence in a subject I struggled with when I was younger. One thing that helped me better understand the subject was the study sheets she made after each of our sessions. She called them “REMEMBER” sheets. Because of Heather’s amazing tutoring, I was able to get through these hard math courses and feel more confident in myself. If your child is struggling in a school subject, preferably math, Heather is the best option in my opinion!

Frequently asked questions

I begin by discussing where they are struggling and finding out what interests them. I also like to learn where their strengths are. Then we begin by working through problems until they get stuck. I don't know where to start teaching until I know what they know already.

I am certified in general education and special education. I’m in the process of becoming LETRS trained (science of reading).
I usually charge $30 for half hour sessions or $50 for hour long sessions. But I'm willing to be flexible.
I've wanted to teach for as long as I remember. For several years, my younger sister was ahead of her class because I would teach her whatever I was learning in school (from elementary through middle school). I began my formal education in 2011, graduation with my bachelors in 2015, and earned my masters in 2020.
I have worked with students from PK - 9th grade. I have worked with students with autism, Down syndrome, dyslexia, dyscalculia, and much more.
Find someone who really meshes well with you. Learning is so much more impactful when you enjoy it.
What do you really need help with? What specific skills are you struggling with? How often are you able to commit to tutoring sessions? What is your end goal?
