Independent tutor and certified teacher with 17+ years teaching experience in Alabama, Georgia, and ESL overseas. I am passionate about student learning and understand that sometimes one-on-one instruction is most beneficial. I have no desire to string my clients along, but tutor until they can work independently on past and current skills. Subjects taught are elementary math, reading, writing, science, and history. I've had much success in helping students make 2-3 letter grade improvement, with student work practice outside of our sessions. My goal is to create a positive, considerate learning environment that fosters academic excellence, respect for each other. I expect the student to strive to be and do his/her best, both academically and behaviorally to promote their success in the sessions and in school.
I enjoy helping students learn, gain understanding, build confidence, and become independent in the skills taught.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process includes:
1. Discussing my services, policies, and procedures with the parent(s).
2. Meeting the student--introduction, conversation, interest assessment.
3. Pre-assessment/diagnostic assessment on the subject of need. Discuss the results, potential learning plan, and scheduling.
4. Hold tutoring sessions; homework is often given for practice, depending on the time of year and student work load.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 17 years certified teaching experience in addition to having tutored younger children and/or peers since the age of 13. I have various instructional training in distance learning platforms, science, reading, and math.
