Brooke Tutoring
About
I am honestly just starting out as an online tutor. I tutored several kids while I was in highschool but haven't done anything since I started college. I needed to do something with a more flexible schedule, being that I'm a student in Chemical Engineering, my work load is heavy without travel time. With that being said, I love math and want young students to love math. It has been my top subject to tutor and with my previous students I pulled them all up at least a whole letter grade. More than anything I would want the students I tutor to succeed in their classes and gain more knowledge and understanding of the subject at hand.
I recieved awards for the highest math average all throughout highschool, and I have made high grades in all my calculus classes in college. Math is something that comes naturally to me, and I want to help make it easier for younger students.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I just need the student to be willing to learn. I do not have any requirements or high expectations. My goal is to help the student the best way that I can, and to do that I need them to help me by showing effort.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a college student in an extremely math heavy degree, and I have done well in all previous math related courses.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I typically start at $10 an hour. This price can be flexible.
How did you get started teaching?
I usually ask the student questions about the specific subjects they struggle with then give them some easier questions to quiz their knowledge on the things they find difficult. From this point I would ask the student what their goals were and try to make a loose plan on how they can succeed.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with children teaching basic math and multiplication skills, all the way to highschool students with algebra and geometry based problems. I can also tutor in trigonometry, I just haven't tutored in that subject yet.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The last girl that I tutored was in the eighth grade and she was having a really difficult time grasping pre-algebra. I was able to help her develop her own way of understanding the material and bump her up two letter grades.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure they aren't stuck on one way of learning. The tutor needs to be able to try and change their teaching style to best fit the student, at least until the student is more confident in the material at hand.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
For any math subject, just think about the most basic questions you know, then try to develop some additional parts for each question. If these become unsolvable to the student, they are probably decent questions to ask the tutor. However, not everything has to be thoroughly thought through before, because you are still learning and that is perfectly acceptable.
