I am a current MFA candidate at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst seeking a masters in poetry. I graduated Cum Laude from the University of Richmond where I received a Bachelors of Arts degree in English with a minor in Creative Writing. At UMass, I teach a College Writing course which fulfills a general education requirement for all college students. While at Richmond, I worked as a tutor in the writing center for first-year seminars. I was also honored as the Writing Consultant of the year for the 2011-2012 school year. I work predominantly with college-aged students, but I have experience teaching elementary through high school students, as well as ESL and international students. I can also offer grammatical help for students of all fluency levels. Ironically, I enrolled at UMass solely to get a masters degree and pursue a career as a writer. Teaching was only a means to fund my education while I was in the program. But over the past two years, my students have completely captivated my attention and motivated me to pursue a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition to teach full time. I have found not only a knack but also a passion for teaching creative approaches to expository essays. I believe I offer a unique perspective to learning that engages students of all skill and interest levels. Being a student myself, I can relate to student mindsets and cater lesson plans to their specific areas of strength and weaknesses.
