About

My name is Gabriel De Leon, I've got 2+ years of experience tutoring math. I have experience tutoring students from Elementary School to University in subjects ranging from elementary school math all the way to university level Calculus I. I've held the following positions in the past where I tutored math:

-Mathnasium: Math Instructor (2019-2020)

-UT Rio Grande Valley: Teaching Assistant (College Algebra (2020-2021)

-Tutors.com: College Algebra, Calculus I (2020-2021)

I recently graduated from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with my Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in Fall 2021. I have been working for bp for 2.5 years as an Electrical Engineer.

I get to know each student individually and really try to understand where their strengths and weaknesses are. I like to focus on the fundamentals and make sure the foundation is strong before building on any concepts. I am very patient and have no issue with repeating any explanations.

    Frequently asked questions

Typically, I like to start off by first assessing the student's current level of skill in the subject matter. Upon further investigation, I figure out what the student requires the most help with, and try to start from the beginning and teach the fundamentals first. Afterwards, I let the student practice on their own to see if they're understanding.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from UTRGV. I currently work as an Electrical Engineer and am in the process of obtaining my Professional Engineer license. I've worked at various locations as a Math Instructor such as my university, Mathnasium, and on Tutors.com.
My math tutoring rates are as follows: -Online: $40/hour for the first hour, and $30/hour for any hours after that. -In-Person: $50/hour for the first hour, and $40/hour for any hours after that. The first session is at no charge and serves as an introduction/to understand the student's needs.
I really enjoyed Mathematics and I required it to become an Electrical Engineer. I found satisfaction in helping others achieve their goals.
While working at Mathnasium for approximately 1 year, I worked with students from K-12. While working for my university as a teaching assistant/supplemental instructor for around 2 years, I worked with university level students.
I recently helped my brother who is in Elementary school after he was struggling to understand fractions. I knew that fractions are one of the most difficult concepts to understand and took him through the fundamentals before building on to more advanced topics.
Specify the subject matter with which you need help with to help the tutor further pinpoint how they can help you. It can also be useful to know what type of assistance is needed (i.e. test prep, semester-long class, etc...).
What am I having trouble understanding? What kind of learner am I (i.e. Visual, Auditory, etc...)?
