David's Science And College Prep Tutoring
About
I go to the University of Dallas: a liberal arts college in Irving. I will graduate in May 2022 with a degree in Biology. I presented my senior composition on semi-synthetic life. I plan to be a lab technician for a year then go to medical school to become a family doctor.
I tutor primarily middle school children (Grades 6-8) but can tutor beyond that. With my help, you can expect your children to understand the broad context of what it is they study, not just the facts and definitions they need to get a good grade. I enjoy helping people understand concepts by inviting them to look at things in different ways if one way isn't working out.
As an older brother and an uncle of many, I am well acquainted with the general needs of children and can accommodate those needs.
By the end of the session, you can expect your child to:
-Effectively communicate the biological principles outlined in the class.
-Have an understanding of the material that goes beyond the scope of the class.
-Recognize the importance of the learning material and how its context extends beyond the scope of the classroom.
-Have an effective method of memorization that can be implemented in future courses.
With me, you can expect a friendly and dedicated tutor. I prepare each lesson in advance and respond to the needs of the student.
I view my time spent as a tutor as a time for learning too. As I teach, I become aware of new methods to teach individuals. I think teaching children is especially rewarding. If I can make my material engaging and rewarding for a child.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Beforehand, I like to ask the parents about the learning material the student is covering in his/her classroom so that I can create a plan for the tutoring session. For example, if the student is learning about anatomy, it is helpful for me to see the assignments the student is expected to complete so that I can gauge the depth I should go into the material.
During the first session, I like to have the student complete a short self-assessment to see if there are any areas the student has greater difficulty learning. This self-assessment helps me determine how the student learns best and what methods may work well.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Being able to relay information and teach someone else a topic demonstrates the highest level of understanding of that topic. As a senior in college, I have spent hundreds of hours studying in groups and relaying the knowledge from the lectures to my friends.
The courses I have taken during my time as a college student include Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Biological Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Genetics, Bioinformatics, and a year's worth of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
