About this tutor

I have the current unique perspective of simultaneously being both a student and a teacher, having tutored my peers for the past three years. Also, all of my services are online and flexible to match the schedules of my clients, so there's no need to worry about scheduling or making it to in-person visits (especially with everything going on regarding covid-19).

I've also used my writing skills to earn an acceptance in one of the top public universities in the country (The University of Texas at Austin) as a full-ride scholarship recipient in the oldest honors program in the country (Plan II Honors), allowing me to better understand the practical skills needed to be a strong writer or English student in any context. I am also the president of a writing club and a aspiring freestyle poet.😁

Language, literature, and the concepts of writing are my passion. I genuinely love helping other students grow in a field that I have a very strong personal connection to. Language is in everything that we do from our most basic conversations to our own self-understanding and I would love to provide my insights to students willing to listen and learn.

Joshua has an excellent understanding of language rules and the structure and form for different types of essays. He was really patient, and has a knack for understanding the learning styles of those he's helping. He was really good at pulling the best effort out of my student. I recommended him to several of my friends for their students, and they were not only very satisfied, but thankful!

Josh always had a creative idea that he was willing to express freely. Not only did he help me with many of my writing assignments, he also inspired me to go the extra mile when it comes to writing. Josh is the ONLY person I know who is truly passionate in his literature. He inspired me and many others to look at English and writing through a positive perspective.

Josh was very kind and treated very respectful. He helped me understand my strengths and how to use them to combat my weaknesses. He also provided very accurate feedback on my work and helped me help myself. Josh is an outstanding and one of a kind tutor. I would recommend him to everyone I know.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

We will generally start by outlining the major task that lies or ahead or simply to big takeaway that will come from our sessions. Then, we will break down that goal into weekly focuses to essentially check off all the boxes that make up the "mastery" of the subject.

Each session will begin with a light warm-up just to get into the mindset of learning, which will then be followed by forty minutes of lesson explanation, answering questions, working through problems, and practicing.

Since my lessons often focus on writing, we will usually spend a good amount of time revising passages and works of other (or even our own writing), as correcting mistakes can be one of the most effective means of growth.
