VivtCao STEM Tutoring
About
I am passionate about teaching because I believe learning can be fun at any age and at any level of education in any subject!
I graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor's in Microbiology and a minor in Chemistry. I have experience as a lead teaching assistant at the undergraduate level for courses such as Foundations of Biology 2, Microbiology, Intro to Microbiology Lab, and Virology Lab. Additionally, I have proven my mastery of subjects such as physics, biology, chemistry, psychology, and sociology by placing in the 94th percentile on the MCAT.
I also have experience teaching children the violin and viola in group settings, requiring attention to detail, the ability to hold the child's attention, and the ability to tailor my teaching style to the individual child's needs.

How did you get started teaching?
I started tutoring as a high school student as a requirement for an honors society and fell in love with sharing the joy of learning with people.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught predominantly undergraduate students.
I also have experience tutoring at the high school level.
I have experience teaching music to students at the grade school level (ages 5-12) and feel comfortable teaching math, science, and english for this age group.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Your success is not dictated by your intelligence but by your work ethic. Anybody can succeed in STEM if they work hard and work smart. Working smart is where I come in.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How do I best process new information? (example: am I a visual learner? Do I like talking things out in a discussion format? Do I need hands-on props to guide me through visualizing complicated processes?)
How do I best review old information I've learned? (example: do I learn via practice problems? reviewing old lectures? making diagrams?)
Am I a collaborative learner or an independent learner? (Do you like having someone with you to immediately talk through difficult concepts or do you like taking your own time to digest the new material?)
Are there additional resources available if your teaching style doesn't completely align well with my learning style?
