About

I tutor psychology and sociology courses as well as English and have been for a couple of years. I work formally as a tutor at Bard College at Simon’s Rock. I am a college student in my junior year. I began college at 16 and am majoring in psychology and gender studies. As a college student, I understand the difficulties of interacting with both high school-level and college-level material in my fields. I would love the opportunity to help you engage with the material in a way that is both productive and exciting!

Frequently asked questions

With a new student, I usually ask them what they’re looking for and why they came to me for help. Every person needs their own, individualized help to allow them to interact with the material they’re studying in a positive way. After consulting the student, I create a personalized study plan and show it to the student for approval. It is incredibly important to me that students enjoy their time with me and learn, by proxy, to enjoy their studies, too! Even things you have difficulty with can be fun, you just need to find a way to make it so. :)

I’m a junior-year college student studying the things that I teach and have been trained by my institution, Bard College at Simon’s Rock, to efficiently and effectively help others learn the way that works best for them. I’ve had my fair share of difficulty with my studies and, as a result, understand the experience and emotions that come along with being “bad” at an academic endeavor. It isn’t easy! My job is to help you overcome that insecurity while also making the most of your situation. Anyone can learn anything, there just needs to be a catalyst for some people and some things. No shame in that!

It depends on several factors, including the time spent both with the student and creating the study plan, the subject being covered, and the financial means available to the client (I charge on a sliding scale, you will pay what you’re able to so that there is no need to worry about being able to afford my help). Because I’m new to freelance tutoring and young, I charge $15/hour or any portion of an hour of work with the client themselves and $10/hour or any portion of an hour of work on any materials necessary for your success.

I’ve always loved helping other people understand and enjoy things that I understand and enjoy. Teaching is a natural extension of that. I believe that everyone deserves to feel confident in their intelligence and learning something that has been difficult to learn helps with that! When I began college, I became a tutor and enjoyed it. Since then, I’ve been looking into freelance work and, well, here we are!

All kinds! I’ve worked with students who just want a little extra help before an exam and with students who have no idea where to start with grasping the material. I’ve worked with people who know exactly what they need from me and what kind of learner they are, and with people who have no idea!

Think about what kind of learner you are (if you don’t know, take an online quiz! Very helpful). How much of the material do you need help with? Is this help for a test, an essay, or just for general help with the class? What about the material you’re struggling with makes it difficult? Don’t worry if you don’t know the answers to these; My job is to help you figure it out.
