About

My tutoring helps students by encouraging & empowering them. I correct students when they make mistakes and explain to them fully why the answer they chose wrong answer and why it was not the best choice. I try to teach all of my students to fully evaluate all answer choices before selecting one.

I enjoy working with my students, and I enjoy when you can see that they are gaining confidence in what they do.

I enjoy when my students work hard and bring up their grades. I may have helped some, but whatever they accomplished is 100% their own.

My son has Aspergers and hates to ask for help. He also doesn’t like to talk to new people. I can’t express with mere words how much I appreciate the patience throughout the lesson even when asked to repeat things more than once!!

He was very patient with me. He answered all the questions I had. Covered an incredible amount in such a short period of time. Definitely recommend if you’re behind, he can catch you up fast. He works well with your schedule too, very easy to set an appointment. Good teacher.

    Wonderful tutor
Wonderful tutor; it was super easy to contact him and schedule an appointment. I really appreciate that as other tutors are not as quick to respond! He really helped my son during a week where he really needed to jump back into a school work!

The quality of tutoring was better than I expected. My son went from Cs and Ds in his subjects to As and Bs despite his special needs. He is more confident and happier, and I am very pleased to have chosen Martin and Argus for Tutoring!

    Frequently asked questions

I like to spend some time getting to know my student a little first... to see what their goals, ambitions, and interests are. It helps to adapt the subject matter to make it more interesting and appealing to the student. Assessing their academic needs, strengths, and weaknesses is also important for positive results and making the most of the time spent with the student.

I have completed undergraduate and graduate courses in education, and I have participated in educational workshops. Perhaps the most effective education and training is helping others to learn and overcome their shortcomings and achieve their potentials. In short, teaching and tutoring have been furthering my education and training each and every day, and always will.

My tutoring rates may vary to some degree depending upon frequency and duration of tutoring sessions and the distance I am from the student.

Second hours (and more) in the same session at the same site have significantly discounted rates. This would include a second hour, etc. for a second student in the same family in the same session.

I began tutoring as a Peer Tutor in my sophomore year in high school, and I have been teaching and tutoring at least part-time since then, for over 20 years.

I have worked with students of all ages from a diversity of socioeconomic backgrounds. My students have included elementary, middle school, high school, college, and adult students from rural, suburban, urban, and inner-city areas.

I enjoyed biking over the course of a month to raise awareness and funds for children with cancer. It was rewarding to hear the stories of the children I took part in helping in biking for a cure.

Most importantly, the teacher you choose should care about you, your needs, and your progress, and sincerely desire to postively impact your education and your abilities to learn.

Students should think through what their needs really are. There is an immediate smaller picture, such as the current issues they may be experiencing with the subject matter, and there is the bigger picture, like what they want to do next in life, whether it is college, further education beyond college, or their potential career.

The more the teacher knows about the student's needs, the better they are able to help the student achieve their goals and ambitions for both the immediate future and looking further ahead.
