Jaime Lyn G. says, "Marisol is a master teacher. I can’t say enough about how incredible she had been. Her depth of knowledge is remarkable, but what truly sets her apart is her ability to connect with each of my children and adjust each learning style. She brings patience, creativity, and genuine care to every lesson, making learning not only effective but enjoyable. Watching my children grow in confidence and curiosity under her guidance has been a gift. We’re lucky to have found someone who teaches from both the heart and the mind. 💜💜💜" Read more

I’m Zack, live in New City and teach in Westchester, and have been working in education for almost 15 years. I’m dual certified in mathematics and special education, and have held various teaching positions in grades 6-12. I have a wide range of teaching and tutoring students with IEPs, who struggle and need assistance or honor students who want to Ace the Algebra Regents. Students and parents would say that I’m flexible, approachable, knowledgeable, funny, and caring.

Melissa H. says, "Megan is amazing. Full stop. Not only is she an exceptional writer herself, but she has an incredible ability to connect with pre-teens and teenagers, understanding their unique personalities and motivating them to reach their full potential. She provided thoughtful, challenging reading and writing instruction tailored to each of my children, inspiring them to read more and continuously improve their writing. In addition, her kindness, dependability, and flexibility, made her the best tutor we could have worked with over the last few years." Read more

What is disability in special education?

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) identifies 13 disability categories where special education should be provided.

  • Auditory Impairment (AI) – refers to a hearing loss not categorized by deafness.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – mainly affects a child's social and communication skills and behavior.
  • Deafness – covers kids who can't hear most or all sounds, even with a hearing aid.
  • Deaf-Blindness (DB) – covers kids with both severe hearing and vision loss that requires unique programs.
  • Emotional Disturbance (ED) – various mental health issues such as anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression.
  • Intellectual Disability (ID) – covers disabilities such as below-average intellectual abilities, poor communication or social skills, and poor self care. One example is down syndrome.
  • Multiple Impairments (MI) – a child with multiple disabilities in this list.
  • Orthopedic Impairment (OI) – covers impairments in kids who lack function or ability in their bodies, such as cerebral palsy.
  • Other Health Impairment (OHI) – conditions that limit a child's strength, energy, or alertness such as ADHD.
  • Specific learning disability (SLD) – conditions such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, auditory processing disorder, or nonverbal learning disability.
  • Speech or Language Impairment (SI) – covers difficulties such as stuttering, pronouncing words, making sounds with the voice, or understanding words.
