About

Tutoring by an educator with 18 years' experience in teaching Spanish, biology, chemistry and general sciences at elementary, middle, and high school levels. I have an M.S. in Biology from Villanova University, have lived and traveled throughout much of Latin America, and was a 2016 New Jersey finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). I also lead students in a campaign to recognize the bog turtle as New Jersey's state reptile, which was officially recognized in 2018. My students have enjoyed and appreciated my knowledge, passion, and patience as they learn.

Frequently asked questions

I always like to know a students needs and interests, so that I might ensure that I can make the material interesting and relevant to them.

I have a bachelor's degree in biology, a certificate of advanced study in Spanish, and an M.S. in biology. I have certification in Spanish, biology, chemistry, and elementary education K-8. I have taught chemistry and biology at the high school level, and Spanish and general science at the elementary level. I have 18 years' teaching experience, as well as experience conducting scientific research in Latin America (primarily Mexico, Panama, and Costa Rica).

I charge $50 per hour in the Princeton area, or in Bucks County, PA. If additional travel costs are involved, I charge an extra $5 per hour for every 15 minutes of additional commuting time.

I started teaching while serving in the Peace Corps from 1999-2001. That was where I realized that being a teacher would be the most rewarding career path for me.

I have worked with students at all levels from Pre-K through 12th, and with students of diverse cultures, socioeconomic backgrounds, and academic ambitions.

I am very proud to have helped many students craft projects that will become the focus of a high school science research program that should produce some exciting results.

Make sure that the teacher is able to learn, and is patient with multiple learning styles.

Students should ask themselves what their priorities might be, and whether they have the interest and commitment to learn new material. If they make learning a high priority, they can certainly be successful.
