I do not have an impressive array of advanced degrees adorning my library wall. My book learning of science and math was but a scant training exercise for the real thing- applied science in the real world where my paycheck depended entirely on my getting the science and math right. The consumers of the goods I helped produce decided if I got it right so my thirty four year career doing science is a fair testament of my success. Had I done science like some of the popular TV personalities have done it, I would have been sent packing long before I earned my reputation for intellectual integrity and technical excellence. During my career I spent many an hour teaching both co-workers and underlings how to do good science, a rigorous system of inquiry centered on its foundation, the Scientific Method. Science has nothing to do with ‘consensus’. Science most often entails tedium and demands discipline, persistence and the shedding of biases, preconceptions and emotionalism. With an occasional stumble I did my level best to follow that script. It is now with a sense of gratitude I draw on my many years of doing science and mathematics to enrich young minds. I am confident that with experience solving real world problems I bring a valuable gift to my tutoring clientele. So if I am blessed to have the opportunity to enhance your learning experience, welcome aboard to hardball science and mathematics 101.

A favorite quote of mine is from Daniel Boorstin- “The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance; it is the illusion of knowledge.” I do not teach illusions.

I love mentoring and watching young people develop critical thinking skills. I have had three assignments with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and it has been extremely rewarding to watch my Littles mature into fine young men. Nothing though has given me more satisfaction than tutoring middle and high school children math and science. To see them apply what they have learned to solve real world problems has given me immense satisfaction. The positive feedback I have been given by the school I worked for was priceless.
