Maia’s Tutoring
About
I have paid experience as a tutor in the academic support center at FSW state college. I really enjoy demystifying hard classes for students and making them easy to understand. It’s my firm belief that it’s just as important to teach a student how to approach problems and think in a certain class as it is to solve the problems. Finally, my goal is to teach your student how to succeed so well that you feel you no longer need my services.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I normally have them go through a few practice problems to see what they're approach is. Then I discuss with them what they're preferred learning style is.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was a peer tutor in the academic support center at FSW state college while earning my A.A.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I usually charge $12 per hour. But I'm easy to negotiate depending on the situation.
How did you get started teaching?
I joined the academic support center at FSW state college
What types of students have you worked with?
I've had paid experience working with college level students but have informally tutored my little brothers throughout k-12 when needed.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would suggest the student find someone who works to adapt to their learning style and needs. Rather than to try and fit their instructor's standards or expectations.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
They should ask themselves...
-if they find lectures or hands on activities more engaging?
-if they understand concepts better when they are drawn out visually or talked through?
-if they have already gone over the material beforehand and have generated specific questions to ask during the session?
