As a special education teacher for over 15 years, and 20+ years experience supporting people with neurological and developmental disabilities, I believe every student can be successful given the proper tools and supports to learn. Peak Abilities focuses on executive functioning and life skills tutoring for teens and young adults. Executive functioning skills are a set of cognitive abilities that allow individuals to manage their thoughts and behaviors to accomplish a task or goal. I have taught all levels of math from grades 6 to 12 (except calculus) and have also taught 10th and 11th grade ELA. I am a special education teacher so I am used to differentiating materials to match the ability level and strengths of the students I am working with. I try to build lessons that address specific skill gaps and areas of improvement. I enjoy working with young people more than I like working with adults most of the time. I think all students deserve to have access to a high-quality education where they can learn critical thinking as well as life skills to prepare them to be amazing humans in the real world.
