Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first session will be gaging what areas the student needs help in. Many will tell me what they need ahead of time, but seeing their work in action will allow me to actually see what they need.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from California State University, San Marcos in 2021 with a degree in Literature and Writing and a minor in film. I have a Single-Subject Credential Program for English. I am currently working on receiving a credential for social science/history as well. I have 4 years of tutoring experience, having worked as a volunteer for StudyBuddy, as an AVID tutor at a middle school, and as a private tutor for TutorDoctor.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Since I hold a teaching credential, I charge between 35-45 dollars an hour depending on the level of content and the distance I will be driving.
What types of students have you worked with?
Through tutoring I have worked with students of all ages, grades K-12.
During my student teaching, I worked in middle and high school classrooms. This is where I got to work closely with students developing their English skills (ELD students), and those with IEP and 504 plans. I successfully differentiated lesson plans in order to add supports for these students whilist still challenging their critical thinking skills.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would check out the California English standards, and the ELD standards if those apply, and make sure that the tutor you are looking to hire is teaching to your grade level standards.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
1. What step confuses you?
2. What does not make sense to you?
3. Explain this concept back to me.
