About
I have years of school and church classroom experience with elementary age students teaching various subjects from science to bible to music. I am particularly fond of math, history, and grammar. I also have over 12 years of homeschool experience with my own children at the elementary and middle school levels, including a child with dyslexia and other special needs.
Despite coming from poverty, I developed a love for books and learning on my own and excelled across disciplines in school, winning awards for English, science, and math. I graduated with degrees from UCLA and Stanford. I hope to instill a love of learning and sense of achievement in my students, as I have in the past.
Note: I am only available in the summer, before school begins in August.
Helping children make personal connections to and between what they are learning, which is one of the best ways to learn.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For the first session, I like to get to know my students and the way they best learn. I ask questions and try different examples. Usually for the younger students I bring a game to play and we practice a subject while playing the game. After that I use games to target areas of improvement and adapt or adjust as I go to focus on the individual learning needs of the child.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taught or assisted teaching kindergarten-age students in a classroom setting. I have engineering degrees from UCLA and Stanford. In high school, I was a peer tutor as well as an JROTC class instructor for leadership training and physical fitness. I have also taught church classes to elementary students. I have homeschooled my own children for 12 years, including one with dyslexia and other special needs.
