I'm a semi-retired software engineer. My experience covers a wide range of the software development spectrum. I worked for decades as a senior and leading software engineer in many hi-tech companies. Over the past few years, I have literally helped tens of Computer Science/Software Engineering students ranging in grade from very young, 7-8 year old, students whose parents wanted to learn programming to PHD students. I also helped many middle and high school math students, especially with Algebra. It gives me a great pleasure and satisfaction watching my students grow and advance in knowledge and competence in the subject matter being covered.

I emphasize that there is clearly a difference between “doing the math” versus “understanding the math”. I help students understand that math is a progressive learning experience. As the student advances his/her math studies I show how follow on courses expand on the basic formulas and theorems to solve more complex problems applicable to the real world of science. I believe in a traditional approach to math. The student needs to understand each basic theorem and formula and view it as a tool for problem solving.
