About
I have been tutoring math and science for 20+ years. I have a Ph.D. In Organic Chemistry from U.C. Davis; and I have tutored students of all ages from high school, college, and beyond. I am a very dynamic tutor who relates very well with students. My tutoring sessions are tailored individually for every student. I students learn by using various techniques that get the students interested and actively involved in learning. I teach them what it takes to be successful and raise their grades.
Additionally, I prepare students for exams and standardized tests and help them maximize their scores! I am the ONLY TUTOR who will answer questions outside the normal session free of charge. I believe that a student should not be needing help should have to wait for the normal sessions.I am the ONLY tutor that offers this service!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to begin by getting to know each student. I ask questions not only about the subject they are needing help but I ask other questions about their overall academic practices. I like to know how they learn the best (visual, auditory, or by doing). I also inquire to see if they have any techniques for taking exams. All of these introductory questions help me develop a plan that will be the most successful for each student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a M.S. in Chemistry and a Ph.D. In Organic Chemistry. I started tutoring while getting my Masters degree. I tutored high school students in chemistry, physics, and math.
When I was getting my Ph.D., I taught undergraduate laboratory class, tutored students one-on-one, and wrote professional papers.
While working in industry, I tutored students on the side in various subjects. Recently, I have begun tutoring more frequently. I have very good experience with working with students of all ages.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching when I was getting both my M.S. and Ph.D. Degrees. I really enjoyed teaching laboratories because it gave me a lot of personal interaction with my students. I was able to get to know them a lot better than a typical classroom situation. It was through these interactions that I get really comfortable teaching, and I was an extremely good teacher.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have tutored students of all ages. I have tutored middle school age children on up to adults. I have tutored all ages in a variety of subjects. I make the subject material more interesting and easily understood.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my favorite recent tutoring events is with a current organic chemistry student I am helping. English is not a first language for her. She was completely lost and needed a lot of help. She went from nearly failing the course to doing better than 65% of the class in a very short period of time.
A lot of her success comes from her desire to do well and her willingness to follow my program. That feels very good.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When looking for a good tutor, it is important to have a good working relationship with the tutor. Years of experience does not always mean that the tutor will be the right on.
