Kei S. says, "Great tutor who is very patient and helpful. Adapts to my needs. There's a little "curse of knowledge" going on--ie, the assumption that I know more than I really do---but we work together to overcome that. Additionally, my tutor suggested some behavioral habits and minor diet changes that actually worked for me. I will be working with my tutor, Fred, again!" Read more

MJ S. says, "Our tutor Ms. Devlin has been an extremely effective fit for my grandson. She began working with him Midway through his fourth grade year through the end of his eighth grade year. He's currently a high school freshman, and has gained so much more confidence from her belief in him and his desire to excel. He's learned organizational skills to help him be more effective in projects and assignments. She has guided him with patience and understanding and he responds to her in very positive ways. Ms Devlin has been very effective in the ways she looks to communicate with her students, discovering the best way for them according to their learning skills. My grandson has grown both academically and personally working with her and has an easier time learning. I highly recommend Ms. Devlin! " Read more

What is disability in special education?

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) identifies 13 disability categories where special education should be provided.

  • Auditory Impairment (AI) – refers to a hearing loss not categorized by deafness.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – mainly affects a child's social and communication skills and behavior.
  • Deafness – covers kids who can't hear most or all sounds, even with a hearing aid.
  • Deaf-Blindness (DB) – covers kids with both severe hearing and vision loss that requires unique programs.
  • Emotional Disturbance (ED) – various mental health issues such as anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression.
  • Intellectual Disability (ID) – covers disabilities such as below-average intellectual abilities, poor communication or social skills, and poor self care. One example is down syndrome.

Our tutor, Ms. Devlin, has been the best fit for my grandson! She began working with him from my grandson's 4th grade year through end of his 8th grade year. She is the reason he's currently excelling in independent class and homework as a freshman high school student today. She instilled a strong sense of self confidence in him. She tailored organization skills specifically for him to be able to be successful and grow with. She is patient, and could reach him and relate to his struggles in ways others were unable to. Ms. Devlin is determined to find the best way to communicate with her students which helps instill caring and trust. My grandson has grown and matured greatly working with Ms. Devlin. I very highly recommend her.
