Chemistry Tutoring (High School And Lower-div College)

About

As a chemistry major at a leading research college, I have access to great resources and study guides for nearly every topic in chemistry. I have been professionally tutoring for about a year now, but have many more years of non-professional experience. Besides my experience, my employment as a tutor at UC Merced has given me access to trainings and programs aimed at developing my skills in tutoring and helping meet students wherever they are in the subject.

I enjoy being able to help students understand concepts and have those little lightbulb moments. Helping students get the grades they need to succeed in the course and seeing their confidence in the subject grow is my goal.

Through my tutoring style, I encourage students to gain a better understanding by explaining their thought processes and work as they go.

Frequently asked questions

My tutoring style uses the socratic method, where I lead a student through a problem or topic by asking them questions to help solidify their understanding. I usually start by asking a student what they believe they are struggling with the most. Then, I will have them work through whatever problem or topic they are having trouble with, while they explain their strategy along the way. From there, I can pick up on the areas that they are struggling with. I believe that the ultimate goal of tutoring is to get to a point where a student no longer needs it. It's really important to let a student try to attempt a problem on their own before jumping in.

I'm currently in my last semester of my bachelor's degree, where I will be graduating with a B.S. in chemistry. I have experience tutoring primarily lower-division introductory courses as an on-campus tutor, as well as organizing study groups and creating practice problem sets based on lectures.

I prefer to discuss pricing with clients based upon their individual needs, frequency/length of sessions, and the level of chemistry for which they need tutoring.
