I am a recent high school graduate who currently attends Mt. San Antonio College to pursue engineering. Throughout high school, by consistently taking the hardest math classes and by currently furthering my education in math in college, I’ve established myself as proficient in math. In our high school CSF club, I received the opportunity to assist many struggling students with their math homework and exam prep, and I have always received great feedback regarding my understanding of the subject, as well as my flexible adaptability to different students’ needs. I understand that every student is different and learns things differently, and I ma

I've been teaching math for over twenty years now, and my experience gives me the skills I need to explain math to pretty much any student. I love my work and I'm very patient. I have a masters degree in math from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and I've taught at schools from San Pedro to Glendale (Kansas City too). I received a distinguished teaching award from El Camino College a couple years ago, so it's not just me that thinks I know what I'm doing. Let me know if you'd like to work with me. I like working with students, it's just a fun process. Math is an intimidating struggle for so many people, but it really doesn't have to be ...

As a mom to 4 kids (elementary age through high school), I know the importance of patience and kindness when it comes to learning. With math, even more so. I focus on challenging kids who love math and also taking the student who says “I’m not good at math” and helping them discover they are more than capable. I’m a nationally certified tutor with 15 years of teaching experience. Available for in person tutoring in Huntington Beach, California and surrounding areas. Online tutoring available nationwide.

As a tutor, I try to give curriculum materials that support the child's needs, but also help them to advance in school by aligning to the school's challenging material or supporting the level of struggle that some grade levels carry in Common Core subjects. I tutor to support students in the long-term growth, not for short-term learning . I work to help students see progress in all their hard work practiced & expressed over time. I love to help students see school to be engaging by using materials that help them develop interest in school subjects. For special needs & neurodivergent students, I am Orton-Gillingham trained for Dyslexia, Dysgra...

Janet W. says, "She has been working with my 2 daughters for about 2 years. She has been patient with them, she helps them engage with math even though they often are not very fond of the subject. She gives a good explanation of the concepts they are studying and tries to help them understand the different approaches to answering the problem. My daughters do enjoy learning from Ms. Starr." Reviews for La Habra math tutors

Recent success stories from people in the La Habra area.

Lynn has been tutoring my son in geometry since the beginning of November 2020. He is in the 8th grade. My son was initially hesitant about working with a math tutor, since he never had one before, but after a couple of meetings, he grew comfortable with and enjoys working with Lynn. He says that she understands the material very well, but more importantly knows how to teach it so that he understands it as well. Prior to working with Lynn, he was very inconsistent on his exams, but since working with Lynn, he has been scoring As and Bs. Sometimes he and Lynn can cover material ahead of his class, so he feels less stress during class.

My son's worst subject is math. Unfortunately math is also my worst subject. There came a point where I could no longer help him with his assignments. He went into high school not really prepared for math. (8th grade was distance learning year). We are thankful for Mr. Vermilye because he not only goes over assignments, but also reviews concepts that he needs help with. He also goes over concepts that he will learn further on in the semester. During exams and finals, Mr. Vermilye helps with extra zoom classes and is available through text when my son has a question. He has been invaluable in my son's learning!

My daughter had to write a pre-algebra test in a few days and I was concerned she was struggling. I contacted SoFlo online, expressed my concern and in spite of the tight schedule they moved things around to accommodate my daughter. I witnessed the session and it’s the best thing since sliced bread. I love the teaching method, and that my daughter was offered multiple methods to solve the same problem. I recommend SoFlo highly!
