I keep a lot of my old material, which helps immensely when students need extra practice or want to look at more notes on the subject. I also have worked with a variety of students, which has taught me how to be adaptive and cater each tutoring session to the student's needs and learning capabilities.
I started The Curtis Education Group because I had worked and known many great tutors that shared my purpose of literacy for all.
All of us in The Curtis Education Group feel passionate about helping children and adults in reading, math and general knowledge.
My almost 30-year career in education started as a teacher at Lewis Carroll Academy of the Arts, where I taught Kindergarten through 12th grade. I went on to become the Director of Education, during which time I developed their phonics program and English curriculum and specified all math, history, science and geography curriculum. Do you ever get tired of listening to all the rules and still fail to achieve what you want? You study, work hard, and prepare as dilliegently as you can only to see your exam scores keep falling short of what you truly desire. Eventually you hit a wall, and after hearing the 1000th different conflicting advice from another struggling peer or family member, you are left confused and directionless once again.
Maybe I am just not good enough? Perhaps I should set my goals lower? Wrong! What if I told you there's a small, yet very subtle mindset shift that all top performers are aware of. You better believe it because, if implemeted ruthlessly,

I have had a passion for tutoring ever since I started helping my younger sister after she consistently struggled on her own in math. The look on her face when the numbers finally stared to make sense was all I needed to know how much I loved tutoring, and the pride I saw in her when she went from a C student to an A student made my heart sing. From then on, I knew tutoring was something I needed to continue doing.
In 2015 I received my CRLA certification for tutoring while working for a year as a tutor in Math, as well as other subjects, at the MiraCosta Community College before transferring to UCSD. At UCSD I continued tutoring by becoming

I'm a teacher whose in their 5th year in the classroom. I have worked with kids grades 6-10. Before that I was a substitute teacher as well. I've taught kids at a variety of levels. I'm always trying to find out how the students learn best and then allowing them to do just that.
As a result of working with me, my students raise their reading levels 1 full year with just 8-12 hours of instruction. We do this by meeting weekly online through Zoom with a lesson plan created specifically for them. I've been teaching elementary school for over 25 years and would love to share that experience with my students. My initial assessment is free so that I can find out your child's strengths and use those to help them to be more confident readers! You can find out more about me at www.strugglingreaderhelp.com

I have a grand multiplicity experience with a variety of cultures and quaint situations both in the classroom and in one on one educational development. I have multiple graduate degrees that lend to a strong resource base for relating, assessing and structuring a plan to meet your goals. I am adaptable to using a myriad of my immense resources and others.
I explain many lessons and problem solutions with very vivid, visual explanations. I know that it is often difficult to understand a lesson or problem with how a book or teacher defines it. By breaking the lessons and solutions down to a general step by step guide combined with visual examples, that include an easy and a hard one, the student will feel like they can even teach and tutor another person. You do not have to be an expert at the whole subject. My main focus is to help a student become an expert at a concept, a lesson, an equation, a problem, etc. Then once you do that for all of the concepts of a subject, you can feel confident en
