As a current student at the University of Washington with two years of professional experience tutoring at Kumon, I have had the opportunity to work with students of various ages. In addition to my time at Kumon, I have also tutored friends, their younger siblings, and other family members. I excel at identifying areas where students are struggling and focus on explaining concepts in a way that makes them easy to understand. My goal is to empower students to work independently, and I provide the guidance and support needed until they are confident enough to tackle problems on their own.

I did a math and logic minor in college, and have tutored math at college level for years. The only reason algebra is ever hard is that someone forgot to tell you something essential. I make sure you do have all the information you need.

I studied history at central washington university, with a French minor. I spent 6.5 years working as a developer in both front end and back end languages. I am currently a high school computer science and robotics teacher. I believe in a wholeistic approach to student development. Education, especially equitable education, begins and ends with student knowledge. I often learn from my students and find that they are a wealth of ideas and thought.

My situation was unique. I had serious epileptic seizures during high school resulting in multiple brain surgeries and a long, challenging recovery. Matt entered my life during this time; I still had assignments to complete before graduation and an impending SAT exam, so I met with Matt twice a week and learned the essential concepts of writing and reading comprehension. While math was my strong suit, Matt helped me identify some earlier math concepts that needed refreshing. My initial SAT score prior to my relationship with Matt was 1260, but, after tutoring, I received a 1510 and was accepted by my school of choice for pre-med studies. I continue to meet with Matt two or three times per week during my undergraduate studies for more advanced writing strategies. I cannot imagine a better academic mentor than I have found with Matt.

Kate is a dedicated educator and I cannot recommend her highly enough! She has been tutoring my second grader in both reading and math for several months and her tailored approach has significantly improved his skills and confidence in each subject. Kate fosters a positive learning environment, making the sessions enjoyable for my son while still remaining focused on achieving academic progress. I am truly grateful for the impact she has made on my child’s education!
