I graduated from Harvard and recently received my Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology from the University of Washington. I am incredibly passionate about teaching and helping my students grow into generators of knowledge - not just passive recipients of information. If we work together, I will bring my diverse range of experiences - from studying spider monkeys in the amazon to conducting multiple linear regressions in Stata - to help you connect with your studies. I am highly invested in your success, both professionally and personally....

Oh my! I had almost finished this part of my profile and I left for 10 min and it was gone. I have been tutoring for over 22 years and I still love it. I have many specialties so I will put them on by bullet point for now, so I can get this done before it disappears again. • I tutor every subject taught in grades K-8 •I tutor everything except math and foreign languages in 9-12 grades. I am excellent with all aspects of Language Arts (grammar, literature, writing, etc.), science and History. •I tutor students for all standardized tests: for the TOEPL (English as second language), The English, Reading and Reader Comprehension in the P

Emily B. says, "Kate immediately created a safe, welcoming space for my child. They especially love how she incorporates *fun* to break up the *work*. Making schoolwork feel fun and possible is no easy task. As a parent, I feel supported in my concerns, and excited that my kiddo looks forward to doing her homework with Kate. It’s felt right since the beginning and I’m so grateful for her tutoring!" Read more

I'm a very laid back teacher. I focus mainly on concept application above all. It makes more sense to me to cover ten topics that are understood fully by a student, than thirty topics that aren't retained. I am quite patient, and I can ensure that every student gets personalized attention.

I did a math and logic minor in college, and have tutored math at college level for years. The only reason algebra is ever hard is that someone forgot to tell you something essential. I make sure you do have all the information you need.

My situation was unique. I had serious epileptic seizures during high school resulting in multiple brain surgeries and a long, challenging recovery. Matt entered my life during this time; I still had assignments to complete before graduation and an impending SAT exam, so I met with Matt twice a week and learned the essential concepts of writing and reading comprehension. While math was my strong suit, Matt helped me identify some earlier math concepts that needed refreshing. My initial SAT score prior to my relationship with Matt was 1260, but, after tutoring, I received a 1510 and was accepted by my school of choice for pre-med studies. I continue to meet with Matt two or three times per week during my undergraduate studies for more advanced writing strategies. I cannot imagine a better academic mentor than I have found with Matt.

Kate is a dedicated educator and I cannot recommend her highly enough! She has been tutoring my second grader in both reading and math for several months and her tailored approach has significantly improved his skills and confidence in each subject. Kate fosters a positive learning environment, making the sessions enjoyable for my son while still remaining focused on achieving academic progress. I am truly grateful for the impact she has made on my child’s education!
