Private tutor with a recent Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3.70 GPA!
I have published two scientific journals with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and won my university's senior project competition. I was the person that would lead an impromptu study session hours before an exam.
DISCLOSURE: I haven't officially tutor, as in get paid for it, but I have helped many of my classmates understand different concepts from the class, and even helped them get A's.

I'd try to understand how the student thinking mind works, i.e. visual learner, example learner, etc. After I know how they think, I can start tutoring them in the way they are most comfortable in. I will give plenty of examples of the concept we are trying to learn, in varying difficulties, so they are ready at whatever problems are thrown at them in the class/exam.
Throughout my 4 years in Penn State, I have always helped other classmates with difficult concepts from the class. It was kind of funny when a couple of my classmates would come up to me with their parents during graduation. They wanted to let the parents put a face to the person that helped their kids graduate with an engineering degree! I was flattered and embarassed at the same time; it was truly an eye-opening experience for me.
