Within the first two weeks of his sophomore year at Phillips Academy, Andover, Curtis was one of three students selected to skip out of the year-long Competence in Writing requirement. He then continued to stand out in advanced English electives meant for juniors and seniors, often receiving only an A+ in a class. Through deep study of adapting literature for performance, Curtis caught the acting bug in college and graduated with a degree in Performance Studies from Northwestern University.
