As of the 2025-26 school year, I recently completed my 34th year as a teacher. I've worked with students of all ages from first grade to 12th grade. In addition, I've also tutored college students in English/literature and writing. Throughout my years in education, I've had the opportunity to work with many bilingual students and students with disabilities. I use a variety of strategies to assist comprehension, clarify writing formats, retain key ideas for extended responses, and conduct research.

I graduated from Illinois State University in 2021 with a bachelors in Early Childhood Education, and received my Special Education License from University of Illinois Springfield. I have taught kindergarten for 3 years and 1 year of 1st grade! I also have experience working with students who have IEP’s and various special needs in the inclusion setting. Prior to that, I worked at a daycare servicing many children up to 5th grade and worked there throughout highschool and college for 6 years. I have always had a passion for helping and teaching young children!

What is disability in special education?

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) identifies 13 disability categories where special education should be provided.

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – mainly affects a child's social and communication skills and behavior.
  • Deafness – covers kids who can't hear most or all sounds, even with a hearing aid.

  • Emotional Disturbance (ED) – various mental health issues such as anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression.
