I have taught kindergarten for 3 years and 1 year of 1st grade! I also have experience working with students who have IEP’s and various special needs in the inclusion setting. As of the 2025-26 school year, I recently completed my 34th year as a teacher. I've worked with students of all ages from first grade to 12th grade. In addition, I've also tutored college students in English/literature and writing. Throughout my years in education, I've had the opportunity to work with many bilingual students and students with disabilities. I use a variety of strategies to assist comprehension, clarify writing formats, retain key ideas for extended responses, and conduct research.

What is disability in special education?

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) identifies 13 disability categories where special education should be provided.

  • Emotional Disturbance (ED) – various mental health issues such as anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression.
