Grace M. says, "Ahmet is invested in your math educational excellence. I'm a liberal arts/legal background and needed help with GRE math. Ahmet was able to explain how and why each math problem worked. That was so helpful in being able to apply his reasoning and techniques to a variety of different problems - not just the problems at hand. On top of that, I'm a busy professional and Ahmet always scheduled ahead, was always on time and ready to teach with the materials needed. I highly recommend him for your math learning needs." Fun fact: I can say the dialogue from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by heart. I also speak three languages! Hi, I'm Christa. I love working with students! Tutoring, to me, is most rewarding when a new concept “clicks” with a student - their excitement is contagious, and it’s a privilege to be able to help them reach that point! On a more personal level, I am a patient and caring type of person! I partner with students on a one-on-one basis in STEM subjects through SoFlo Tutors, my tutoring agency. I studied Mathematics at Wayne State University and have been tutoring for 2 years. At SoFlo, we work to raise grades, strengthen understa

Kangsoo Y. says, "We just moved to the US from Korea and the change has been very tough for my kids. They are not familiar with the US school system and falling behind. I saw their confidence draining. But all of that changed when SoFlo came into the picture. To start, they gave a free assessment so they could figure out where my children were struggling. From there we had weekly tutoring sessions that my kids actually enjoy. I am seeing their confidence return and life in the US get better for them" Read more

How do I know if my child needs a math tutor?

Your child may need a math tutor if:

  • Their grades or test scores are declining
  • They get confused or frustrated with homework
  • They are having difficulty or lacking confidence with numbers
  • They are excelling in school and need more challenging tasks
  • You are no longer able to provide help with homework or learning

How many math tutoring sessions are needed?

Tutors suggest a minimum of one tutoring session per week until students build confidence, understand the subject, and improve grades. On average, students take 9 to 50 sessions.

What do private math tutors do?

Math tutors are responsible for helping students with homework, teaching various mathematical concepts, motivating and boosting confidence, and teaching skills like note-taking, studying, and test-taking. Math tutors also show how to perform calculations, processes, and computations to complete their assignments.

Tutoring is worth the money because:

My daughter had to write a pre-algebra test in a few days and I was concerned she was struggling. I contacted SoFlo online, expressed my concern and in spite of the tight schedule they moved things around to accommodate my daughter. I witnessed the session and it’s the best thing since sliced bread. I love the teaching method, and that my daughter was offered multiple methods to solve the same problem. I recommend SoFlo highly!

Lauren (our Hammond Bell tutor) is an energetic, passionate, caring and positive tutor that has become a saving grace for our 10-year-old daughter who has dyslexia and executive function issues. Her approach involves really getting to know each child then molding the programs to their unique personalities/needs. For my daughter, Hammond Bell has brought the fun back into learning and built my daughter's confidence. And she also has worked with my daughter's school so that we can do the tutoring at school, leaving her after-school hours available for rest and play. My daughter LOVES working with Lauren--even on Zoom, something she never enjoyed before. Each week, I get a very detailed description of what Noel has done and is learning. I can tell that Lauren really spends time on these updates and she always makes herself available to me to answer any questions. My daughter has been consistently 2 years or so behind academically, but with Lauren, I really feel that shifting. We had tried many programs before Hammond Bell's, but they all required heavy parent involvement (something that did not work for our family) and homework. I would recommend Hammond Bell highly to any parent who is frustrated by not seeing results and being told they need to do more at home to reinforce learning. Lauren is a real gift to our entire family.
