Jenny R. says, "If I could give Amy 1,000 stars, I would. Amy has been an angel sent from god. She has been working with all three of my children (elementary, middle, and high school) since August 2025. My elementary son was in RTI, having difficulty with reading, and within 9 months, he was reading at grade level, passing his end-of-year test at level 3 after starting at level 1 in August. My middle schooler is in all advanced classes, and I have no idea how to assist. Algebra honors was passed with an A and a level 4 on the EOC. My high schooler is disorganized and forgetful. Amy took over, sending reminders, study guides, and preparing him for all tests. SERIOUSLY... went from mostly Cs and Bs to all As and Bs, passing all EOC/FSA assessments with one level 3 and the rest 4s. Amy has saved my sanity and I am so thankful to her," Read more

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Tutors.

What is special education tutoring?

Special education tutors help students with mild to severe cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities. Special needs tutors modify the general education curriculum to meet the child's individual needs and involve themselves in each student's social and behavioral development.

What is disability in special education?

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) identifies 13 disability categories where special education should be provided.

  • Auditory Impairment (AI) – refers to a hearing loss not categorized by deafness.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – mainly affects a child's social and communication skills and behavior.
  • Deafness – covers kids who can't hear most or all sounds, even with a hearing aid.
  • Deaf-Blindness (DB) – covers kids with both severe hearing and vision loss that requires unique programs.
  • Emotional Disturbance (ED) – various mental health issues such as anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression.
  • Intellectual Disability (ID) – covers disabilities such as below-average intellectual abilities, poor communication or social skills, and poor self care. One example is down syndrome.
  • Multiple Impairments (MI) – a child with multiple disabilities in this list.
  • Orthopedic Impairment (OI) – covers impairments in kids who lack function or ability in their bodies, such as cerebral palsy.
  • Other Health Impairment (OHI) – conditions that limit a child's strength, energy, or alertness such as ADHD.
  • Specific learning disability (SLD) – conditions such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, auditory processing disorder, or nonverbal learning disability.
  • Speech or Language Impairment (SI) – covers difficulties such as stuttering, pronouncing words, making sounds with the voice, or understanding words.
  • Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) – injury to the brain caused by a physical force.
  • Visual Impairment / Blindness (VI) – covers both partial sight and blindness.

Jenny R.
I cannot say enough about my experience with Advocating 4 Excellence and working with @amydecelle for SAT practice. From the very beginning everything was intentional structured and focused on real growth not just test taking tricks. What truly stood out was how personalized the support was. Amy did not just teach content she showed me how to think through each question helped me identify my patterns and pushed me to improve in a way that actually made sense. Every session built confidence and strategy and I could see my progress week by week. The result was a huge score increase that completely changed my college options. I went from feeling unsure about my future to knowing I had access to Bright Futures opportunities and competitive top-tier schools. If you are serious about improving your SAT score or any type of learning and want someone who truly invests in your success, this is it. Highly recommend.

I have 3 children and as a single dad, I do not have the extra time to sit down with my children as much as I would love to do so. The tutors they always send me are professional and friendly. My kids are doing great in school and always turn things in on time. The owner is very nice and friendly too.
