My name is Liya Wodma. I am currently a biochemistry major. I would say i have been tutoring my whole life starting with my friends in school. And now u been working with Kumon and Grade potential tutoring. This experience has led me to be faced with variety of studemts and learn how to approach different situations. I want to show students that learning does not have to be hard and how fun it could be. When i find the best teacher, I am in love with the learning topic more. So that is my main goal, to be the best one out there. I want to specifically focus on Math and change peoples mind on that.

I have taught all levels of math from grades 6 to 12 (except calculus) and have also taught 10th and 11th grade ELA. I am a special education teacher so I am used to differentiating materials to match the ability level and strengths of the students I am working with. I try to build lessons that address specific skill gaps and areas of improvement. I enjoy working with young people more than I like working with adults most of the time. I think all students deserve to have access to a high-quality education where they can learn critical thinking as well as life skills to prepare them to be amazing humans in the real world.

What is special education tutoring?

Special education tutors help students with mild to severe cognitive, emotional, or physical disabilities. Special needs tutors modify the general education curriculum to meet the child's individual needs and involve themselves in each student's social and behavioral development.

What is disability in special education?

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) identifies 13 disability categories where special education should be provided.

  • Auditory Impairment (AI) – refers to a hearing loss not categorized by deafness.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – mainly affects a child's social and communication skills and behavior.
  • Deafness – covers kids who can't hear most or all sounds, even with a hearing aid.
  • Deaf-Blindness (DB) – covers kids with both severe hearing and vision loss that requires unique programs.
  • Emotional Disturbance (ED) – various mental health issues such as anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression.
  • Intellectual Disability (ID) – covers disabilities such as below-average intellectual abilities, poor communication or social skills, and poor self care. One example is down syndrome.

Michaela was supportive, kind, and helpful during my college application process. She worked with me to develop my own ideas, providing specific guidance with editing my writing, and more broad assistance with structuring and developing my thoughts. She helped me strengthen my own writing while ensuring that my voice remained at the forefront. She cares deeply about her students and is incredibly knowledgeable about the college application and essay writing process. I would definitely recommend her and her services!

Dave was great help to my daughter. He clarified concepts and boosted her confidence in physical science. He was super flexible and willing to find a tutoring time that would fit into our busy schedule. He was willing to start tutoring my daughter ASAP to help her prepare for her Honors Physical Science final. It is obvious that Dave has extensive knowledge in science and math. He was a great tutor for us.
