I am a self-motivated and progress-driven Assistant Professor of English with extensive experience in higher education. I have taught courses in English as a Second Language, linguistics, English Communication and more; I have developed courses and degree programs; created assessment strategies. I am also an active researcher and have contributed actively in service to both my institution and internationally.
With over two decades of teaching and research experience, I have a successful record in teaching and research. I have developed course materials for EAP, ESP and TESOL courses, curriculum for Master’s programme in TESOL and Bachelor’s program in English Language Studies, teaching methodologies to deal with L1 students transitioning to English-medium-instruction universities, assessment strategies--Vocabulary Recognition Skill as a Screening Tool in English-as-a-Lingua-Franca University Settings and evaluation of EFL programs on ADRI principles to enhance Quality-assured course delivery with impact. I have also been a certified IELTS Examiner and while teaching in the MENA region. I have demonstrated the knowledge, tact, and diplomacy to work with differing cultures. For example, I create appropriate student-centred learning environment in the classroom that respects cultural preferences to foster credible interpersonal communication skills to enable second language acquisition.
I am currently researching applied linguistics; in particular, on post-enrollment language assessment, English-medium-instruction University, TESOL in English-as-a-lingua-franca (ELF) settings, Student beliefs in the Arab World, IELTS training of Arab students etc. I am currently involved in a lifespan research initiative on 'Writing beyond the university' and 'Writing across the curriculum.' In this context, I was selected to take part in the prestigious Elon University’s Center for Engaged Learning research seminar on “Writing Beyond the University” to collaboratively develop and plan multi-institutional research projects to be conducted at each of our institutions. My research team includes members from Ireland and the United States; we are currently composing a book chapter to be submitted based on our work. In my current and previous roles, I exercised skills in collaboration, communication and academic publishing and consistently contributed to team efforts and organizational improvements. I am open-minded and focused on new developments in my field. I have proven to be effective and motivational, with proficiency in critical thinking and collaborative work. I enjoy brainstorming and coordinating efforts to achieve a common goal. For example, I prepared with colleagues in Australia a research study to develop a tool to be used in a randomized, controlled trial to determine if an intensive highly-contextualized English language test preparation program can improve the English language proficiency and test-taking readiness of International ELLs.

English can be learnt only in a face-to-face situation, either physically or remotely. YET is a great directed remote learning experience. I benefitted the most in the rem,ote classroom experience that I had with them for a few months. I would continue with YET for longer period of time

A student seeks help outside the classroom only when (s)he is in dire need. Confidence building measures should be the first priority so that effective learning takes place. We must know that learning is a process and we can move one step at a time in the right direction.
