Hello! I am a Colorado native with an associates of science from Red Rocks. I've worked a lot of jobs, from maid to cake decorator to, most recently, full time small-group math instructor with many of the responsibilities of a classroom teacher. My favorite thing about working with students is seeing that moment where they realize they've just done something they thought they couldn't do, and are smarter than they think. This is what drew me to math education, especially as someone who struggled with math until being diagnosed with ADHD in college. My personal experience means I am very prepared to help other people learn - if one strategy d

Hello families! Since I was a teenager, I have been working with kids. I babysat for multiple families starting when I was 12. Then, during summer days in highschool, I volunteered at a camp for kids with a variety of disabilities. After earning an English Literature degree in college, I worked as a teacher's assistant in elementary schools for 5 years. Then, once I received my Master's in Speech-Language Pathology, I spent over 20 years as a Speech-Language Pathologist. The first 11 years, I worked with a wide variety of kids and helped them navigate school. I always included fun ways for them to learn because I knew it wasn't easy or fun fo

What is disability in special education?

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) identifies 13 disability categories where special education should be provided.

  • Auditory Impairment (AI) – refers to a hearing loss not categorized by deafness.
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) – mainly affects a child's social and communication skills and behavior.
  • Deafness – covers kids who can't hear most or all sounds, even with a hearing aid.
  • Deaf-Blindness (DB) – covers kids with both severe hearing and vision loss that requires unique programs.
  • Emotional Disturbance (ED) – various mental health issues such as anxiety disorder, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression.
  • Intellectual Disability (ID) – covers disabilities such as below-average intellectual abilities, poor communication or social skills, and poor self care. One example is down syndrome.

Reviews for Denver special education tutors

Recent success stories from people in the Denver area.
Rachel B.
During our son’s Junior Year in high school we wanted to hire a tutor to help him improve his writing. We were astounded to see the extent to which his research, writing, editing, and writing voice developed during his year of tutoring with Hope. She is engaging and encouraging while skillfully directing the student’s process. Her humor and enjoyment of the process really creates a relaxed and positive learning environment for the student. As a parent who has hired many tutors over the years, it’s such a relief to find someone who communicates promptly, professionally, and consistently. I would highly recommend her services!
