I currently attend Northeastern University, and have been working with children for four years. I have been directly involved with teaching kids for three years. I specialize in K-6 math and reading, and I focus on improving motivation and confidence as well as strengthening foundational skills. If kids want to learn, they will pick up concepts quicker, and I achieve this by giving kids levels of agency within the process, e.g. should we learn colors or shapes first today? which helps build ownership in the learning process.

I have been in the business of coaching and teaching kids for most of my adult life. Ever since I had kids I have been involved in their lives as a coach, a classroom volunteer, and through YMCA activities (camps and sports). In fact, the encouragement of so many parents convinced me to see what it would take to become a teacher. Many years after graduating from Stanford I began the teacher's credentialing process. In 2002 I completed my work and earned a Master's in Education. When friends asked how did I like my new job, I responded, "It's the hardest job I ever loved." And it still is. I have taught or student taught from Kindergarte...

Shila A. says, "Rayva is very thorough, professional & enthusiastic. She arrived on time and motivated my daughter for an extended class from 1hr to 1.5hr. My daughter really enjoyed her class, since Rayva fully covered her questions and her class was super productive by teaching her fun and simple ways of approaching math problems. I highly recommend Rayva, since she is not only very knowledgeable, but also is able to motivate teen students to stay focus and improve their skills!" Read more

I like Ryan because he is relatable. He is a good teacher but switches things up because he is still a young adult. I think hes able to teach me because hes still in touch with modern games and music. I find it fun even to learn from because its nice to be able to relate to a teaching figure. --- Kieran
