What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students must ask themselves, where I do need assistance, is it in speaking, reading, writing or listening skills? Also, what particular grammar point or part of speech am I having difficulty with, verb tense, adjectives or subject pronouns?
