About
My diverse academic and professional background and my passion for my students and the content are what characterize me as a communication tutor.
I earned my B.A. in Cognitive and Linguistic Science from Wellesley College in 2017. Yes, I'm one of the few Wellesley men! I loved my course of study which focused on linguistics, psychology, and philosophy. While a student at Wellesley I taught at a local preschool and tutored other students in public speaking.
In the following years I worked for two nonprofit organizations: The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts and the Casper Artists' Guild/ART 321.
I completed one year of the Communication Masters program at the University of Wyoming, before leaving to pursue other opportunities. While there I taught five sections (of ~24 students each) of introductory public speaking to undergraduate students. I also tutored in the oral communication center, where I assisted students with writing and delivering speeches.
I love working with students to find creative solutions to communication problems. Whether they're crafting the perfect thesis statement or getting over public speaking jitters, I like to use what I have learned through 1:1 time with my students to come up with strategies that work for them and for specific assignments. I can be pretty out of the box (my public speaking students might lament my making them get up and yell while doing jumping jacks) but I have found that being that way pays off in terms of student retention. The best compliment I got from one of my college freshman public speaking students was "you're a dope-a**" teacher... I'm not sure where to put that one on a resume but I will take it!
