Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I typically meet with parents or, if the client is high school or older, the client to talk about their concerns. If we think we're a good fit for each other, we schedule services for at least a month. I typically ask for semester-long commitments to services. Sessions are typically 50 minutes in length, 1-2 times a week, depending on needs. I share information with parents as appropriate.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a speech language pathologist with extensive continuing education training in executive function, structured word inquiry, and other language therapy approaches. I am skilled at working with clients who are struggling, discouraged, or are close to giving up on themselves ever learning to spell or stay on top of life or learn their math facts. If clients of any age are open to trying, we can make a big difference working together.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $80/50 minute sessions. Sessions that go longer are prorated, but the minimum charge is $80.
I carry two state licenses and have medical malpractice insurance; I have continuing ed requirements; and I follow other regulations that add to my clients' safety, but also add to the cost of running a business.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Great moments when working on spelling are when a client, who was previously uninterested in spelling, will come in asking why a particular word is spelled the way it is. Or when they come and say, "Hey, I saw this word the other day and I could totally make sense of its spelling!"
But my very favorite moments are when a client says, "What? Our session is already over?" And that happens a lot with my approach to spelling!
