Emily Church Tutoring

I run a private tutoring and academic coaching practice focused on helping middle school, high school, and college students feel confident in STEM, testing, and the college admissions process. I’m an incoming M.D. student at the University of Washington School of Medicine and a Pomona College graduate in Neuroscience (cum laude, 3.96 GPA), with 4+ years of experience as a private tutor, college readiness coach, college Teaching Assistant (neuroscience, genetics, organic chemistry), and mentor for first-generation and low-income students. I’m comfortable supporting everything from foundational math and science through AP/IB, college-level STEM, SAT/ACT, and pre-med coursework. I also have experience as a published neuroscience researcher, which helps me connect what we’re learning to real-world science and careers.

Working with me, students can expect sessions that are structured, calm, and encouraging. I start by understanding their goals, current classes, and learning style, then build a clear plan that blends content review, guided practice, and explicit teaching of study skills and test strategies. I work especially well with students who are anxious about “hard” classes or big exams, and with those navigating busy schedules, ADHD, or executive function challenges. Families often tell me that I’m good at breaking down complex ideas without talking down to students, and that I help them feel both supported and challenged. My goal is always the same: not just higher grades and scores, but a stronger sense of agency, organization, and long-term confidence as a learner.
