About

For many students, difficult projects and misunderstandings sap the fulfillment from completing those projects. The endgoal, when this happens, no longer has anything to do with the process of learning; instead, they just aim to finish the work, usually as quickly as possible.

It's like doing a puzzle. When frustrated, students becomes so fixated on completion that they lose the necessary patience it takes to finish the puzzle, jamming pieces together until something resembles a finished product. Perhaps the biggest injustice here: the student won't look back on that finished picture with pride.

Learning is not just about finishing the puzzle; it's about the growth that occurs along the way. That's why I focus on the steps most vital to your student's long-term success with my energetic, patient, and and knowledgeable approach. I don't just aim for students to earn higher grades but also for them to gain a renewed interest in their work and a self-sufficience to begin work on their own.

I most adore the moment that a student finds joy in the work they do. There's a spark of pride that can be visibly seen on their face, particularly when they overcome a major obstacle to their learning or complete a difficult assignment. The work of a teacher (and, by extension, a tutor) is not aimed at merely helping students to achieve good grades, but to fully engage them in the learning process as well. Helping students reach levels of academic success that they never thought possible is our purpose as educators. And, in that moment of immense joy, the whole process pays for itself.

Frequently asked questions

I am a student at Harvard, working towards a degree in Literature and Creative Writing. Often, people underestimate the skills gained from focusing in Literature; but, reading makes good writers. And, in addition to all that reading for school, I have to also write about it-- constantly. Though I'm also studying in Creative Writing, I have mastered the essay form through my extensive reading and writing, developing a systematic way to get young adults actively interested in academic writing.

Before going back to school, I had a vocal studio in Indianapolis, IN. I professionally music directed, played piano, and taught voice, piano, and AP Music Theory through some private schools (and still do). Teaching is not new to me. I create strong connections with my students to engage them in difficult learning material and it paid off-- several of my students have made their way into prestigious musical theatre schools.
