About

I am a recent Ivy League graduate with a Bachelors in Science, which ensures I am up to date on STEM material and the challenges of learning remotely during this pandemic. I am also very understanding of how difficult grasping concepts can be and find new ways to present material that makes learning successful and engaging.

I enjoy that this job allows me to be a teacher and a student. By helping students understand material in new ways I appreciate nuances I myself didn't notice the first time around. I also am empathetic to the struggles of school, especially in a remote environment, and would like to make learning fun rather than daunting!

Tutoring with Nivi greatly improved my test taking strategies and confidence for the SAT. She worked on my weaknesses using both concept review and learning new strategies which was beneficial since that it wasnt a prewritten course of action but rather tailored to my progress. For strategies, she showed me how to approach different kinds of problems in that it became kind of a routine. She was flexible with meetings and made sure the time we spent together was effective and efficient. I highly recommend Nivi!

Frequently asked questions

I begin by understanding where my student stands with the material presented and try to gauge their learning style. For instance, some students have trouble rememebering details but understand the big picture whereas others have turned to memory when they don't understand. I then work with the student to put together a schedule that is feasible but keeps them on track, and make weekly progress check ins to see progress.

I have been a Biology department teaching assistant at Brown University for three years, and was the head teaching assistant of a research class this last academic year. I also have three years of peer tutoring/mentorship algebra, geometry, physics, chemistry and biology, and a year of college prep (SAT/ACT, essay writing, resume editing).
