Murray's Science Tutoring
About
I graduated with a BS in Biology with a concentration in Neuroscience from Mercyhurst University. I am currently working on my MS in Biology with a Certification of Healthcare Informatics from Chatham University, with a final goal of becoming a college professor. I absolutely LOVE the sciences, I have since I was young, and I very much enjoy teaching. Coming from a large family as the eldest sibling, it was my duty to review information with my siblings after we all returned home from school, to make sure that they had a full understanding of their scientific and basic mathematical subjects. This moved from the home to an unpaid tutoring position at my undergrad, in which I helped other members of my class prep for exams and quizzes, or simply met up with them to review material.
I am always attentive to my students, and have a policy of turning my cell phone to silent during times of work. I will happily take extra time on specific subjects, review exam and quiz questions, and even help with SAT and ACT prep. I am adept in the Biological Sciences, General Chemistry, Mathematics up to Pre-Calculus, and Statistics.
And lastly, a couple fun facts. I am a certified sailor after a tenure on the U.S. Brig Niagara, and I am a writer when I am not studying.
I am a big fan of helping people understnad hard subjects, because I've been there. I have had many academic areas where I struggled, where I needed more help than I could give to myself. That's why I'm here. God willing, I can help my students grasp these concepts in a more understandable and cohesive way.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My process begins with an intake appointment, where we will define strengths and weaknesses on different areas of the subject matter (Example: for math tutoring we may run through a short multiplication and division exercise to determine strength for middle school, or an exercise of more advanced algebra for Pre-Calculus). From there, I can assess the student's needs to get them to where they need to be!
