About

I taught 3rd grade and more recently 4th grade for 11 years in a Dual Immersion Public School, so I have experience working with students who are not native English speakers.

I have also worked at the Middle School level and feel comfortable working with students through 8th grade.

My specialties are Language Arts: History, Literature, Reading and Writing.

My background is in Fine Arts, so I bring a fresh, creative approach to learning with a focus on visual aids.

I have enjoyed a lifetime love of learning, and utilize these traits and skills on a daily basis: curiosity, inquiry, collaboration, expression, notation, organization, fruition.

I especially enjoy seeing things through a young person's perspective, as I always learn from my students; teaching and learning go hand in hand. I also enjoy finding what sparks joy for each student and using it to help them find their own path through the learning process.

She is doing an amazing job with our 8 year old, even with it being remote. Our student is excited for each session when reading is typically a bit of a struggle. Thank you!

Elisabeth (Beth) was fantastic, she had my 2nd grade daughter engaged for the whole hour (which is a long time when learning). We wanted to focus on reading & writing. Beth was able to assess where my daughter was at and then worked with her strengths & develop her skills in the areas she had been struggling in. We were very happy with Beth & will re-engage once we return from a holidays.

Frequently asked questions

I assess a new student as I work with them early on to develop a rapport, and an effective working relationship. This involves reading, speaking and writing, where appropriate. Based on the areas of focus identified by the parent(s), I use targeted lessons that I’ve developed myself, to fine-tune an individualized learning pathway. Reading selections are based on the students interests.
I hold a Masters Degree in Education, and have 15 years of classroom teaching experience, mostly grades 3 and 4.
My fee is based on $35 for a full hour.(recommended) In some cases, I will do 45 minutes for $30.
I grew up in a large family (fourth of twelve children), so I did a lot of informal teaching as I grew up. I served with Americorps as a mentor/tutor of Middle School students, after earning my Bachelors Degree. I was in the classroom with them at times and felt I could make a difference that way, so went back for my teaching credential.
I taught in a Language Immersion Program for many years, so I am well aware of the needs of ELL students. I have worked with all ages from Kindergarten to adult.
Parents shared with me that a middle school student that I worked with for about a year, showed a 200% improvement on his writing benchmark test!
Reading and writing go hand in hand.
Focus on one or two areas that need the most improvement. Then ask how the teacher would proceed in setting and meeting goals toward that end.
