About
I am a passionate, enthusiastic student who wants to help others. Given my unique perspective as a student, I can help teens and younger kids tips and tricks I have found useful in and outside the classroom.
I have done most of my work in the field of foreign languages. For my articles that I have written on language learning, please check out my website, which you can find here: https://jamescorl3.wixsite.com/website.
I have also presented at langauge conferences, from in my local community and state (New York) to international ones in Montreal. Going to these events has helped me refine my method of language learning, and has helped me learn four languages to proficiency.
Furthermore, I have a 4.0 GPA, so I am not just a language guy :). I can help with most subjects, from advanced English to basic biology. I have tutored my friends for over five years, so I know how to make the class enjoyable, exciting, and worthwhile.
I hope to see you in my class soon! Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions you may have for me and my abilities.
I love seeing students improve and progress in whatever they are trying to master. Once they do that, I enjoy seeing them take their learning to the next level.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I like to get to know the student on a personal level (likes, dislikes, etc.). By understanding the student, I can effectively work with them. Since no two students are alike, getting to know what makes a student learn more is crucial to helping them understand content. From there, I drill concepts into their mind using strategies that I personally develop for each student. This method has been extremely effective for me in my over five years of tutoring.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been tutoring my friends (offline) for over five years. Whether it's English or chemistry, they have come to me to understand concepts better. My friends have reported increases in test scores and averages after having me answer their questions for them and guide them through material.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Most lessons, I will charge a flat rate (typically $30-$45/hour). However, if a subject is not familiar to me, or I have to relearn material, I may put a premium on the lesson, putting the cost of the lesson up to $55-$60 hour. I will make my strenghts and weaknesses (in terms of my abilities) very clear to students so they know what each lesson will cost.
How did you get started teaching?
I started after a few of my friends wanted me to explain some Shakespearean themes one day after school in the library. From there, I've guided numerous friends through other topics and subjects that they've needed assistance with.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with (mainly) middle-class students who maintain a Merit/Honor Roll average. However, I have also worked with lower income students who struggle to pass some classes, or even immigrants who do not speak English (that's how I learned Spanish).
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I loved my experience at LangFest 2019. Meeting so many interesting and foreign people at this language conference was inspiring, and sparked me to begin learning Turkish. It also showed me that people appreciated my articles and my presentation that I gave at the conference.
