About

I am a skilled and enthusiastic individual with experience supporting learning and development outside of the classroom to meet academic, career, and personal growth challenges. I graduated John Jay College with my BA in Criminology and minor in Sociology; and am currently pursuing my MA in Criminal Justice.

I have tutored students working to earn a high-school diploma, and I have worked with adults to acquire career development skills. Service attributes that I believe make me and exceptional tutor and mentor are:

Utilizing engaging, hands-on educational methods to facilitate a fun, personalized approach to learning while stimulating students’ enjoyment and appreciation for the subjects.

Building and sustaining strong student and parent relationships, encouraging queries, comments, and concerns and adapting my tutoring style to each student’s unique needs.

Possessing two years of previous volunteering tutoring experience with the New York Cares, coaching students in the creative writing, college admissions, etc.

I find tutoring and mentorship a rewarding experience. It begins with building a relationship with the student/mentee and getting to know them as a person, what interests them inside and outside of learning. I believe in my students and their ability to succeed academically and overall and I make this message clear. My energy, persistence, and patience serves to motivate my student’s to apply themselves and not give up.

We all learn differently, in different ways, and at different times. I find it very exciting to determine how each student learns best, and to teach them strategies that they can use to help them achieve their full academic and professional potential. Also I love watching students grow and become more self-confident as students, people, and problem solvers

I believe tutoring is rewarding for several reasons:

1) Tutoring feels good. In other words, helping other people learn and develoo makes me feel good inside.

2) Tutoring forces you to think through the basics of the subject matter, which makes you better in that field of interest.

3) Tutoring makes me feel more confident and helps me to become a better communicator.

5) I find it fun to share my knowledge.

    • We can then speak about the student’s goals, and then figure out the best way to proceed (vision and goal setting)
    • Then we co-creatively design a learning and development path.
