What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Before I take on a student, I have a discussion with the parent and student to undestand the expectations and to get to know each other. It's only after this discussion that I ask the Parent or student if they wish to continue with my services.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am an Electrical Engineering graduate and I have an MBA, so my math and business skills are advanced. I also was a University professor and have been doing part time in person and online tutroeing for over 10 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard rate is $60/hr but that can vary depending on the capacity of the student to pay. During the "getting to know" interview stage, the parents or student could negotiate a lower rate and I can grant a discount if I know they will be returning customers.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always had a passion for teaching, and early in my career, I taught Advanced Math at 2 universities in Manila.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have workes with Grade school, High School, College and professional students
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge. During the pandemic, I held several free webinars on Excel Tips training.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I specialize in Algebra and pre-calculus as well as MS Excel training. My advice is to look for a tutor whose objective is to ensure the student "gets it" ans understands the topics. Also find a tutor who is passionate about teaching and not just interested in the money he can make.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think about their target and objective for getting a tutor. Do they have a target grade they want to attain, do they want to have advance lessons, or catch up on stuff they missed in class. If you can share your expectations and goals with your tutor, a good tutor can adjust the lesson plan to accomodate the goals.
