About

My language philosophy focuses on the proper use of the standard elements of language and rules of grammar and phonetics to accomplish accurate oral and written production.

I grew up and attended high school in the Dominican Republic where I received a strong education. I've spent time in Buenos Aires, Argentina; in Santa Tecla and San Miguel in El Salvador; and Medellin, Colombia for academic and professional purposes. I've also visited Spain and Italy. All these experiences have broadened my awareness of the diversity of the Spanish language, which is part of my language philosophy.

I learned French as a child and continue to study it over the years. I have completed advanced coursework in college covering 17th Century French Literature; detective novels and crime drama films; and phonetics. I also studied Portuguese during college and completed an intensive summer program at the Portuguese School in Middlebury College. I was recently selected as an alternate for the Critical Language Scholarship offered by the US Department of State to spend the summer in Brazil advancing my knowledge of Portuguese. Unfortunately, the program was canceled due to COVID-19.

I completed an MBA in Finance from Seton Hall University in December 2019. I have an undergraduate dual major in Diplomacy and International Relations from Seton Hall as well with a minor in French.

    Frequently asked questions

I'd begin with an initial interview/assessment to determine the current proficiency level of the client and their goals. After that, we can determine whether there is room for collaboration, and create a lesson plan targetted to the goals of the client.

Learning or improving another language is a very fluid process. I am happy to explore different resources and styles to help you reach your goals!

I have completed academic coursework in all three languages, reaching solid command in all four domains (reading, writing, speaking and listening).

The minimum proficiency level I have accomplished is advanced.

My rates fall within the market average, ranging from $30 to $40 per hour. I am happy to negotiate an arrangement that works for the client.

I am happy to work with all types of students irrespective of background and proficiency level.

Whether you are in school (primary, secondary or above) and want to improve your skills or guidance completing your assignments, a working professional seeking to enhance proficiency, or learning as a hobby, I am happy to be a part of your learning process!

Look for an instructor that makes you feel comfortable and who knows the art of providing feedback well.

Confidence is your biggest tool as a language learner, so look for someone who is committed to helping you become a more confident speaker.

You should consider how you learn best and look for an instructor that will teach you that way. Look for someone who will meet you where you are, not only in your proficiency level, but also in your learning style.

Also, know your baseline, i.e., what you currently know. That will help both you and your instructor charter your lesson plan and track your progress.
